About Melanie
Melanie Hyche is an American painter. She lives and works in Austin, Texas. Melanie has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art Education with an emphasis in painting and she graduated from Texas Christian University in 2013. Her works have been shown in Fort Worth, Texas and in Austin, Texas at Big Medium Gallery in 2017 and 2018 for the Austin ISD Art Teacher's Exhibitions. Melanie enjoys painting a wide range of subjects from portraits to pets, abstract and ethereal, and landscape expressionism. Her biggest inspirations come from the vast emotional human experience, and she likes to explore and experiment with new techniques in acrylic, oil, gouache, and watercolor. She believes each idea calls for its own material, and she remains open to the unique processes each artwork calls forth.
"As I work I allow the artwork to speak; each piece has its own voice and asks for its own process. A portrait may whisper 'soft tones, broad strokes, and please disrupt the background with yellow ochre' and an emotionally-themed piece may shout 'turn me upside down, change the warm colors to cool, and draw a limb here even if you won't keep it!' It's not my place to argue with the art; ultimately I know that each viewer will find discoveries of their own experiences in each painting, like a Rorschach test, that perhaps I didn't intend... and that is the point. Art evolves. Just like us."
